Goal galore peaks VPL’s 15th round.

TWENTY FOUR goals were fired in eight matches of the premiership’s 15th round, bringing joy to the winners and dismay to the losers.
It was good round as the total number of goals averaged to 3.0 per match, as opposed to the 14th round when 15 goals were netted to make an average of 1.89 per match.
There was an increase of 1.2 goals that making an increase of 66 per cent in marksmanship. The round 15, which also served as the league’s half way, saw holders Young Africans and Ndanda FC producing the round’s best marksmanship, a success that piled misery to Majimaji and Mbeya City, the round’s worst performers.
The midweek results brought pains to soccer fans in Ruvuma and Mbeya regions. It was difficult to express the reaction of soccer fans in Ruvuma, who were once again punished when their sole team, Majimaji FC suffered a 5-0 humiliating defeat from Young Africans, while Mbeya City were whipped 4-1 by Ndanda in the 15th round kick offs.
Though not bottom-placed, Majimaji have the most porous defence in the league so far. In just three matches, the Songeabased team conceded 16 goals, making an average of 5.3 per match.
The team lost to Toto Africa 5-1, 6-1 to Simba before their 5-0 drubbing from holders on Thursday. Young Africans and their striker, Tambwe Amis starred the performance of league’s 15th round.
Spearheaded by a hat-trick he netted in their match with Majimaji, Tambwe consolidated his chase for the golden boot with 13 goals. Prior to the match, Tambwe had tied with Hamis Kiiza of Simba on ten goal- mark.
Also scorer of a hat-trick, Kiiza is chasing him with ten goals, but he is a goal ahead of Zimbabwean, Donald Ngoma who has netted nine times, tying with the former Simba striker, Elias Maguli from Stand United.
Having fired homer eight goals, Azam FC striker Kipre Tchetche is fifth-placed ahead of his team John Bocco with six goals Azam’s Shomari Kapombe is leading the list of defenders who attempt marksmanship.
He had so far netted six times, while the best scorer in midfield section is a Zimbabwean Thabani Kamusoko, who has punished the net five times.
Until the end of the first leg, Young Africans peaked as the team with both the best defence and the best marksmanship. The holders have netted 36 times while conceding only five goals in their 15 outings.
The team’s closest challengers, Azam FC and Simba SC are far behind in both disciplines. Second-placed Azam have netted 30 times, while conceding ten goals, while Simba have scored 23 goals, but allowed the ball back into their net nine times. The worst of all in performance are bottom-placed Kagera Sugar with nine points and five goals for and 19 goals against.
African Sports are 15th overall with nine points, with four goals for, but allowed 15 goals into their net. Also at the bottom are their neighbours, Coastal Union who are placed 14th with ten points, eight goals for and 17 goals against.
Though they are not at the relegation zone, 13th-placed Majimaji have conceded 29 goals, the highest number of goals conceded so far. They have managed to score only eight goals from 15 matches.
