Malya sports college to turn into University.

THE government plans to invest heavily in sports development by promoting the status of the Malya College of Sports Development to the University level.
Minister for Information, Culture, Artists and Sports Nape Nnauye said here on Friday that massive plans in the sports sector target to make sure Tanzania records impressive landmarks than is the case today.
According to Minister Nnauye, apart from other plans in store, special focus will be directed at the sports based college, so that it can start attracting many students from the local and foreign institutions particularly within the East African region.
“The fifth phase government is determined to improve all sports and cultural activities by training more local experts and introducing a number of incentives. We will also increase investments in areas of sports, Malya College being one of the priority areas,” said the Minister.
He mentioned some of the strategies in reaching the envisaged achievements as making sure close monitoring is maintained, seeing to it that graduates from the college are promoted as soon as they complete their studies.
Others include collaborations with other sectors like the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) so that sports equipment becomes more available and in affordable costs.
Nnauye called for the Malya College Board to timely submit to the ministry the expansion and rehabilitation programme of the needed infrastructure as the facility looks forward to acquire a new status within the near future.
However, the minister was not happy with the status of some of the college’s buildings, whose construction was considered to be shoddy.
Earlier, the College Principal, Richard Mganga, briefed him on numerous challenges facing the facility, mentioning some as serious shortage of safe water and limited budget allocated for the implementation of various academic and social programmes. Mganga asked for the government to invite investments and modernise the infrastructure to meet the anticipated status.
