THE Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA)-Tanzania Chapter has organised a special training for journalists in the Lake Zone focusing on the 2015 general election.
Journalists from various media houses are attending the training taking place at the New Mwanza Hotel. According to MISATanzania, the training is aimed at improving and enhancing knowledge and skills of local journalists on election reporting.
“Our aim is to build and not demolish the country,” Mr Sengiyumva Gasirigwa, the MISA-Tanzania Information and Research Officer said at the beginning of the training.
During the two- day intensive training, the participants will, among other things, receive training on the right to information and its importance on election reporting, analysis of the cyber and statistics law and media role in elections.
The training has been supported by the Ugandabased Collaboration on International (ICT) Policy in East and Southern Africa (CIPESA).
“We’re helping the media to get greater access to information, including social media to improve their election reporting,” CIPESA head Mr Wairagala Wakabi said.
Meanwhile, another group of journalists in the Lake Zone regions are also attending a training on how to report general election, organised by the Media Council of Tanzania(MCT) in collaboration with the BBC Media Action.
